Why choose Moorland?
Our classes are very small and this unique aspect of our school helps to build
a special relationship between teacher and pupils, producing consistently good
results. Our academic staff take their role as mentors and motivators very seriously
and this produces a strong work ethic.
Children from all backgrounds will gain from the Moorland experience. Moorland
takes the "family" approach to boarding and tries to provide a stable
substitute for family life. In fact we aim to complement family life since we
offer opportunities not found in the home. Extra-curricular academic and leisure
activities add an extra dimension to the life of the boarder. Living away from
home develops a measure of independence with the resultant increase in self-confidence.
As a result the child learns many of life's lessons at an early stage and emerges
better able to withstand the strains and stresses of adult life.
We are a non-selective school, although we would ask that pupils are achieving
the expected levels in the national curriculum. Our intake has always been broad
because we have more to offer than academic excellence. Our main criteria are
that the child is well behaved and is willing to learn and be part of the school
community.
Boarding at Moorland is based upon the idea of the extended family and we offer
full boarding, weekly boarding or even the chance for day pupils to occasionally
board. We are an Independent boarding and day school not run by a charity, religious
organisation or other body.
