Moorland Junior School pupils

Moorland Junior School

The Junior School, for Years 1 - 6, is a self-contained department with excellent resources. As with the school in general, the focus is on small classes, usually between 10-16 pupils per class, which enables teachers to work closely with individual pupils, giving extra help to those who need it and extending the reach of others.

All lessons are planned within the National Curriculum framework, with a strong emphasis on literacy and numeracy, and all classes are taught PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) to help develop the whole child socially and educationally. The Junior School prides itself on creating an exciting learning environment and lessons are enhanced by practical activities and series of educational trips throughout each term. Work presentation is also considered important and children are taught cursive handwriting from Year 3, as well as being encouraged to develop their own style of writing and expression. Children also benefit from Moorlands specialist teachers in Music, French, PE and Football, and can opt to participate in Drama and Singing.
