Wimbledon weekend Saturday 5 July 2008 – Wimbledon Trip
40 places have now been booked to see some of the best tennis in the world. We travel to Wimbledon to see the action on the final Sunday. We visit Winsdsor Castle on the Saturday. Booking forms are available from the school office.

Wednesday 13th May 2008 - Paul Woods Visiting
Paul Woods will visit Moorland as part of a UEFA street football tour. Our children will also enter the Ford Team Challenge where a minimum of 3 players are filmed for 1 minute demonstrating as many innovative tricks as they can. See Paul's youtube video here or his UEFA video here

Mr & Mrs Smith organised a barbecue together with some entertainment. We hired a surfing simulator and an inflatable Sumo Wrestling area.

12 year 11 student took part in a GCSE PE evaluation at Ribblesdale School.
Robinwood 25th - 27th April 2008 - Junior outward bound weekend
Junior pupils will visit Robinwood Activity Centre at Alston in Cumbria.
Bowling Sunday 27 April 2008 – Boarders trip to the Trafford Centre
The boarders had a day out shopping and 10 pin bowling at the Trafford Centre, near Manchester.

Following our super ISI inspection, the Independent Schools Association Inspections Committee have accepted Moorland as a full member of the association. ISA website

ISI Monday 4th February 2008 - ISI report now online
The Independent School Inspectorate visited Moorland in October 2007. A four person team spent four days in the school looking at all aspects of our operation. A copy has been sent out to parents and an online version can be found here.
Year of the Rat 7th February - Chinese New Year Celebration in Manchester
Mr Smith took a smal group of boarding pupils from Hong Kong to Chinatown in Manchester. After a two hour banquet pupils visited a Chinese supermarket to stock up on foods from home. 2008 is the year of the Rat. A Rat Year is a time of hard work, activity, and renewal.
Alpe D’Huez Friday 18th January 2008 - The ski party departs for Alpe D'Huez
A party of 56 enjoyed the superb snow conditions in Alpe D'Huez. The top 2 of the 5 groups were skiing red and black runs, including the world famous Sarenne.
  Wednesday 9th January - BBC film crew visit the school
Reporters and a film crew from BBC Manchester visited our sports hall to interview Mr Jackson and to film the children's incredible football skills.
  Monday 7th January 2008 - happy new year !
The new term starts with record numbers in the school. We welcome Emily and Aynsley into the junior school; we also welcome Zak, Thomas, Tom and David into the senior school. Mrs Ravat takes over History covering for Mrs Neesham who continues her maternity leave. Miss Gibson joins us as PE teacher and sports coordinator. Good luck to year 11 pupils who are embarking on a series of mock GCSE's.

Christmas shopping trip to the Trafford Centre.
St Helen's Church in Waddington Wednesday 5th December - School Church Service in Waddington
Most would agree that this years carol service was the best ever. Well done to everyone who participated in the singing and readings.
Rhianna concert Thursday 6th December - Visit to the Rihanna concert .
A group of year 10 & 11 pupils travellled to see Rihanna's Good Girl Gone Bad tour at the MEN Arena.

The Manchester Actors Company visited the school to deliver scenes from 'Mice and Men'.
  Friday 2nd November - Moorland School Open Day (12pm - 7pm)
The 2008 year 7 intake will be a 2 form entry. We still have vacancies but interest has been very high. Our next open day will be on Monday 2nd December between 12pm and 6pm. More here......
Fireworks Thursday 1st November - Firework Display & Disco
Over 200 chilren, parents and friends watched the fireworks and enjoyed the disco.

Mrs Donaldson visited our year 11 pupils to discuss 6th form entry to St Mary's in Blackburn.
Blackpool Lights 18th November 2007 - Visit to the Blackpool lights
The boarders visited Blackpool to see the lights.
Honk Kong Thursday 11th October - Visit to Hong Kong
Mr Smith visited Hong Kong. He welcomed many visitors to the Moorland stand in the exhibition hall. He also visited a Hong Kong secondary school in Tseung Kwan O and gave a short presentation to year 10 and year 12 pupils.
  Monday 8th - Thursday 11th October - Full ISI Inspection
A team of 4 inspectors visited Moorland to start the full inspection (see the ISI website). Mr & Mrs Smith received the feedback on Thursday and were both delighted with the findings. The report will be published on this website and sent out to parents as soon as we receive it.

Mrs Farmer visited our year 11 pupils to discuss 6th form entry to Clitheroe Grammar School.

Reception, year 1 and year 2 visit the Eureka Museum in Halifax.

  Monday 24th September - Rain, rain, go away..........
A superb day to get wet and watch rainbows. We started the third week of the autumn term by welcoming two new pupils (Aaron and Eliot) to Moorland.
  Sunday 23rd September - Boarders trip to Camelot
Most of the boarders visited Camelot Theme Park. 5 boarders went with Clitheroe Rugby Club to play in Warrington.
  Friday 21st September - Mrs Neesham starts her maternity leave
We all wished Mrs Neesham well as she left us to start her maternity leave. Miss Taylor will take over Mrs Neesham's lessons on Monday 24th September.
 

Friday 21st september - Uefa feature for former pupil
Former Moorland pupil, Rhesia Baron, has made an appearance on the uefa.com website highlighting her work with uefa on the grassroots programme for European football. Rhesia left Moorland in 2005 and studied A levels at Clitheroe Grammar school. She is now in America on a football scholarship (with pre-law).

autumn term

Welcome back!!
We start the autumn term with new staff and lots of new pupils. Mrs McPartlin joins the senior school to teach English (with Mrs Spouse) and Mrs Cooley joins to teach French and German (with Mrs Wilson). Click here for a full list of staff. We were behind schedule on the new classroom block so our efforts went into improving our existing ones.

We now have record numbers in the school with our largest year group being year 11 with 37 pupils (split into 2 classes).

Camelot Theme Park Thursday 12th July - Junior ç
The junior school end the summer term in style with a visit to Camelot.

  3rd & 4th July - Junior School Presents 'Sleeping Beauty'
Reception through to year 6 all took part in this terms production of the classic 'Sleeping Beauty'.
Malham Thursday 5th July - Year 9 Trip to Malham
Year 9 visit the beautiful Malham district to see the classic limestone scenery of cliffs, crags, and scars, the unusual and valuable wildlife resource of lime-rich Malham Tarn, and the farming landscape of miles of ancient dry-stone walls, field barns, meadows.
  2nd July 2007 - Work experience starts for year 11.

At last!!!! It didn't rain on sports day. Well done everyone for a super effort on the day. Well done to Joe & Shawna for winning the overall junior award and to Phyllis and Ashley for winning the senior overall prize. The winning house was Shireburn

After the final GCSE exam during the day (statistics), year 11 finally let their hair down after all the revision.

Mrs Ainsworth took her group to Wycollar as part of the GCSE geography curriculum. Mrs Entwhistle took the art group.

Mrs Catterall took her class to Fleetwood as part of the year 6 geography curriculum.

  Monday 4th June - The academic year end looms!
Welcome back to an extremely busy end to the academic year with only a few weeks to go before the long summer break. This week, we welcomed 6 children for taster days (4 in juniors and 2 in the senior school); places were offered to 5. We also welcomed 3 children who came in for a look around.
Honk Kong 26th & 27th May 2007
Mr & Mrs Smith and Mr Jackson were at the UK Education Expo in Hong Kong, at the Hong Kong Convention Centre. We welcomed many visitors at our our stand in the exhibition hall.
  25th May 2007 - School closes for half term
Hollywood 22nd May 2007 - School Disco "Hollywood theme"
Our school council have arranged a Hollywood disco. Juniors from 6pm - 7.30pm and seniors until 10pm. Admission is free. Parents are welcome to come along for a glass of wine!
Fleetwood 15th May 2007 - Oh we do like to be beside the seaside!
Miss Le Page took the year 1's and 2's to Fleetwood for a Victorian seaside themed day out.

  19th April 2007 - Super GCSE results for year 10 pupils
Our year 10 pupils recently took their first modular GCSE exam for maths. The results were out today and they were outstanding. One third of the children achieved A/A* grades (12 out of 36). Well done to Phyllis, Thomas, Brioni, Paul and Heather who achieved A* grades. Mrs Sanderson's 19 pupils achieved 5 A*'s, 7 A's and 7 B's. A HUGE well done to Phyllis who managed to get all 50 correct! Also to Rebecca in Mr Edwards group who got 49/50 correct on the foundation paper.
 

17th April 2007 - welcome back after the Easter break
We welcomed some new pupils after the Easter break. Alex and Bethany in year 8, Safaa in year 7 and Harley in year 5. Just before Easter, we welcomed Benn into year 8, Chris into year 9 and Kya into year 1.

The boarders took full advantage of all the rides on a wet day out at the seaside.

World Book Day 1st March 2007 - World Book Day
We celebrated the 10th Birthday of World Book Day. The World Book Day has become firmly established as a big annual event which helps us to promote the enjoyment of books and reading.
  26th February - Year 10 & 11 Football against Oakhill (five a side)
Well done to both teams for a high energy game of football in our sports hall. The final score was 4 - 2 to Moorland. This adds to the victory in the previous weeks year 7 & 8 game against Oakhill.

Alpe D’Huez 26th January 2007 - Ski trip to Alpe D'Huez
The general impression was that this was the best ski trip the school has been on. Recent snow meant we enjoyed great ski conditions. Many of the skiing groups took advantage of the great snow to try some off-piste techniques. Our new hotel, the Beausoleil, was situated right by all the main ski lifts which allowed all abilities to ski right to the door from the very first day.

Year 9 spent an evening at the Preston Charter Theatre to see Shakespeare's mystical, magical, mysterious, musical romantic comedy of revenge, a father’s love for his daughter and the misuse of power. shakespeare4kidz.com

Radio 3 Live performance 18th January 2007 - Blackburn Cathedral performance
James & Callum from year performed in the choir at the choral evensong at Blackburn Cathedral. This was broadcast live on Radio 3.
  9th January 2006 - Welcome back to the 2007 school year
We welcomed some new pupils in the run up to Christmas and also after the festive period. Daniel , James and Stuart in year 9. Ashley, Ryan and Adam in year 9. Cameron in year 4.
Christmas 13th December - Christmas Parties !!!!
The junior Christmas party took place in the junior hall and the senior Christmas party and disco took place in the dining room. The turn-out was fantastic.
  11th December - Year 11 meal at Zio's in Barrowford
Mr Smith, Mrs Spouse, Miss Le Page and Mr Edwards were kindly invited to attend the year 11's Christmas meal at Zio's Italian Restaurant in Barrowford. Well done to Rose and Kerry-Anne for providing the entertainment! The event was arranged by year 11 with military precision; I hope that they put the same amount of effort when it comes to mock exams in January!!!
William Wordsworth December 11th - Year 10 visit Dove Cottage, Grasmere
Dove Cottage was home to the Romantic poet William Wordsworth and his family for 8 years where he wrote many of his most famous poems.
Stable Manners 7th & 8th December - Junior nativity play.
The junior school presented 'Table Manners' which is a nativity musical with a jazzy feel.

A Roman Urn 5th December 2006 - Year 6 visit to the Roman Museum in Ribchester
The museum is dedicated to the Romano-British history of Bremetenacum Veteranorum, the Roman name for Ribchester.

Evening visit to the Christina Aquilera Concert at the MEN Arena.
Tai Chi 13th November 2006 - Tai Chi lessons
Even with a small amount of practise, Tai-Chi has beneficial effects to health and fitness. The mind and body relaxes, it gently tones and strengthens muscles. Tai-Chi improves balance and posture. The sessions are open to juniors from 4pm-4.30pm and seniors from 4.30pm-5.15pm each Monday.
Jorkik 16th November 2006 - Year 6 visit to the Jorvik Museum in York
Our children walked through the reconstruction of Viking-Age streets, as they would have been in the year AD975. They also came face to face with a 'Viking'.
  11th November 2006 - Remembrance Day
Our boarders took part in Clitheroe's Remembrance Day Ceremony.
UEFA 8th November 2006 - Mr Jackson's work in UEFA's sights
Mr Jackson has also made an impact on European football's governing body. A camera crew from UEFA's latest grassroots initiative, the UEFA Training Ground, spent a week filming with the Moorland School and Blackburn academy coach looking at his innovative coaching methods.
  7th November 2006 - Hockey Match against Oakhill College
Well done to our year 10 and 11 mixed team who played Oakhill. We lost a close fought match 2 - 1.
Borat 5th November 2006 - Visit to see the Borat movie.
Mr Smith took some year 10 and 11 boarders to see the new Borat movie.

2nd November 2006 - Firework display and disco
The fun will start at 6pm with the disco. We hope to start the display at around 7.30pm. Drinks (wine for parents) and food are provided.

The boarders visited the megabowl in Preston.
 

15th October - Are state schools dumbing down science?
Science has been in the news this week with the new GCSE science curriculum being branded "sound bite science". Sir Richard Sykes, rector of Imperial College London, is among the scientists to attack the core qualification, in which pupils discuss topical issues. He warned a "dumbed down syllabus" may stop those who did not study chemistry, physics and biology individually from getting into good universities. (more)

Moorland will not be dumbing down science!!!! Our year 10's have just embarked on double or triple science courses.

Jeans for Genes Day 6th October 2006 - Jeans for Genes Day
Jeans for Genes, organised by four national charities, raises funds for research into serious and often life-threatening genetic disorders affecting thousands of children.
Blackburn Rovers 5th October 2006 - School visit to Blackburn Rover Football Academy
Mr Jackson organised this surprise visit to Blackburn Rover's Brockhall training ground.

Alpe D’Huez 2nd October - 2007 SKIING TRIP, final call for places.
TO ALPE D’HUEZ, FRANCE - (26th Jan 2007 – 2nd Feb 2007). 42 of the 45 places have now been taken. The cost is £640 including transport to and from Manchester Airport, return flight to Grenoble, coach transfer to Alpe D’Huez, accommodation, food, a 5 hours skiing lesson per day and ski & boot hire. A deposit and completed form will secure a place. More here.....

24th August - Excellent 2006 school exam results (again!!!!!!!)
Achieved 93% 5 A* - C pass rate.
64% achieved at least one A or A* grade.
On average, pupils passed 9.0 exams each at A* - C.
On average, pupils passed 5.5 exams each at B or better.
