Baby unit (3 months – 1 year)

The baby unit is centrally located within the main nursery building and has a caring and quiet atmosphere. Staffed by highly professional carers and with a high staff-to-child ratio, the baby unit is a safe and secure environment for babies to learn through play. Babies follow a stimulating routine which includes painting, singing, going for walks (in a pram!) and floor play.

The baby unit stresses learning through play and the children have access to a wide variety of equipment, all housed in a purpose-built nursery and baby unit within the beautiful 15 acre grounds at Moorland School.

The baby unit and nursery have secure outdoor play areas and the unbroken views over Waddington Fell are spectacular.

Toddler Unit (1 – 2 years)

The toddler unit is situated in our nursery building, set in the secure 15 acre grounds of Moorland School. The spacious toddler room is divided into a large messy play area and floor play area. Toddlers enjoy lots of activities including sand, water, playdough, art, nature walks, baking and outdoor play.

The emphasis is on learning through play and having fun. The toddler unit benefits from it's own secure outdoor play area seperate from the nursery school and baby unit, which benefits from a superb rural setting.

Nursery School (2 – 3 years)

The nursery school adheres to the Foundation stage of the curriculum. Children in the nursery follow carefully structured activities with friendly qualified staff. The emphasis is on learning through play and the children have access to a wide variety of equipment and resources.

The nursery school unit is split into four distinct sections:-

  • Messy play – including painting, playdough, cutting & sticking
  • Soft play and ball pool
  • Story corner
  • Main nursery room

The Nursery's superb layout of colourful rooms and equipment make it an ideal and exceptional learning environment.

As well as having its own indoor soft play area, the nursery also has a large, secure outdoor play area within its extensive grounds. The nursery play area is used solely by the nursery and baby unit and has an all-weather area as well as a pretty garden.

The rest of the School's extensive grounds are used for nature walks, where squirrels, hedgehogs, bats and deer are among the exciting wildlife.

Bursaries are available for children who attend the Nursery or Kindergarten and continue into the Preparatory years.

In the Nursery School's most recent Ofsted inspection we were highly praised for our:-

  • Language and literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Knowledge and understanding of the world
  • Creative development
  • Physical development

Ofsted went on to say that the Nursery took a caring and patient approach to the children's learning, together with a strong individual approach to teaching language, literacy and mathematics.

Kindergarten 1 (3 – 3 years 9 months)
Kindergarten 2 (3 years 9 months – 4)

The newly refurbished Kindergarten 1 and 2 are situated in a separate unit in front of the main school.

Children work and play in a stimulating and colourful environment. Experienced and caring kindergarten staff prepare routines that follow early learning goals. Kindergarten children are encouraged to experience all areas of learning including social skills, creative language, knowledge of the world and maths. The children benefit from the secure, extensive school grounds and superb views, as well as the varied opportunities for nature study in this beautiful rural setting.

Children have the opportunity to enter our reception class and progress through the school, generous bursaries are available.
