Important notes for Parents of boarding pupils

Parents are requested to read and observe the following points in order to assist in the smooth running of the school):-

  • School Uniform

All items must be named. Your co-operation in this matter would be much appreciated.
  • Trainers/Shoes
School shoes (2 pairs) should be plain black lace-ups for both boys and girls. Boarders should have trainers for leisure wear and trainers for sport/games (with non-marking soles) . Boarders are responsible for cleaning their own shoes.
  • Money
In addition to issuing pocket money on a weekly basis (Friday after school), which is charged to your account at the end of each term. A bank account is operated for each boarder in school and money for your child’s school bank account should be handed into the Office in the form of a cheque made payable to ‘Moorland School’. Amounts can be drawn by pupils at the same time as/or instead of their pocket money. To avoid money being misplaced, pupils should have no more than £5 in cash in their possession at any time. Your help in this matter is much appreciated.
  • Spectacles
All boarders who wear spectacles should have a spare pair available in school in case of breakage.
  • Travel arrangements
May we draw your attention to the time of school closures (4.00 pm) whilst at Half Term and End of Term school closes at 1.45 pm. These times must be adhered to as we do not have provision for staff supervision after these times.

Pupils up to year 9 should be collected from and returned to school by a guardian.

Where a pupil is not collected from school, details of times of travel and the tickets should be sent to school at least 2 weeks before the date of travel.

    Flights

Flights should be arranged, wherever possible, on the date that term finishes or 1 day earlier. Return to school should be within 24 hours of start of term. We are happy to book taxis to escort children to and from the relevant form of transport but we cannot be responsible for purchasing tickets or arranging times of travel. As we do not have a large number of taxi firms to choose from, it would be appreciated if details of travel arrangements could be forwarded as early as possible.
  • Weekend invitations
Where a pupil is invited to spend a weekend with a friend, permission from both sets of parents should be given in writing or by telephone to the Office by Wednesday of the week in question.

Where boarders are out for the weekend, the Office must be informed (by Wednesday) of the time they will return and notice must be given if this time is changed otherwise problems will occur. Pupils should not miss lessons on Friday pm or Monday am except in very special circumstances and with the full permission of the Principal.
  • Videos/DVDs
If your child wishes to bring a video or DVD to school, this can only be accepted if it is clearly marked with its viewing classification and your child’s name. Videos must be of a suitable category. No 18 cert DVD's or games must be brought into school.
  • Mobile Phones
Please note that mobile phones are not allowed to be switched on during the hours of 9 am and 4 pm and must be stored in lockers overnight. Pupils are allowed to take calls from parents in an evening. Pupils are always delighted to receive letters from parents and friends.
  • Medication
No pupil should have any medication in their possession. All medicines must be handed into the Office or to Matron. In order to comply with Regulations, all medication has to be strictly monitored.
  • Aerosols
Parents are reminded that aerosols are NOT allowed in school and we should be obliged if you could ensure your child does not return to school with these. Any aerosols found in school will be confiscated.
  • Personal Belongings
Boarders should not bring any expensive items in, eg: Jewellery, clothing, as they may go missing or clothing may get damaged whilst being washed. All clothes should be machine washable. We cannot be held responsible for any damaged or missing items.
