Prize Giving 2005
Malcolm Pein
was the guest of honour at our prize giving. Mr Pein has been a chess international
master (IM) since 1985 and also writes for the Daily Telegraph. Mr Pein played
a simultaneous chess game with a selection of Moorland teachers, pupils and players
from Clitheroe Chess Club. The 26 player simul took place during the day.
Also present were the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress of the Ribble Valley, Councillor
and Mrs Ainsworth;. the Mayor & Mayoress of Clitheroe, Councillor and Mrs
Knox. Mrs Catterall and Mr Smith gave speeches and Mr Edwards controlled the prize
giving.
The evening opened with the hymn, I Vow to Thee. The Principal’s speech
followed. Mrs Catterall then reviewed the progress in the junior school. A medley
of music and poetry by the junior speech & drama group and songs from the
musical Joseph by the cast of Joseph followed.
Mr Pein presented the GCSE Certificates.
Paul Butterfield (year 9) performed a piano solo - 'Romance in G' by Hummel. Mr
Pein then presented the trophies. The closing hymn was Jerusalem.
