School Sport
For a small school we have fantastic sporting facilities, our large sports
hall provides all year round access to sport and our 15 acre grounds provide us
with all the space we need for a wide range of outside sports. The hall is used
by pupils across the age range, from Nursery to Senior School.
We try to provide a wide variety of activities so that each pupil experiences
all aspects of sport, these include netball, football, fencing, horse riding,
hockey, basketball, volleyball, badminton, health related fitness, gymnastics,
tennis, athletics, rounders, short tennis, swimming, trampolining, cross country,
table tennis and judo.

Our 5000 square feet sports hall offers superb facilities for playing badminton,
with a wonderful playing surface on all four courts. Pupils play singles and doubles
badminton during some PE lessons, at lunchtimes or after school. |

All junior pupils get the chance to ride at Moorland. We currently use a nearby
stable (Readwood) and the pupils are taken there by minibus after lunch on a Friday.

Our huge sports hall is also home to a full length basketball court and 4
side-to-side practice courts. We play competetively against all the local secondary
schools. |

We have one hard and two grass tennis courts. Tennis coaching takes place
in the summer months. Short tennis is also played in the school sports hall. |

Pupils get the opportunity to fence each week under the expert supervision
of Robert Kiss. Robert fenced for Hungary at two Olympics and coaches for the
British Fencing Association. Moorland School has just become affiliated to the
British Fencing Association and will be a centre of excellence for fencing in
East Lancashire. The cost per lesson is just £4. Our fencing lessons are
on Wednesday evenings and are open to all school children from any school
in the area. More.... |
