What a busy day Woodlands have had. Firstly, we started the day off with a wonderful Mother's Day Breakfast. The children read out their beautiful cards, whilst the mums were treated to jam and cream scones and tea. It was lovely to hear all the amazing reasons why the children love their mum's.
The children then enjoyed another fabulous bake sale in aid of Red Nose Day. Once again thank you to all the parents and staff that brought donations of cakes and biscuits.
This afternoon the children became entertainers in the Moorland School Talent Contest. From impressions to dancing, we had it all. It really did showcase what fantastic talent we have here at school. Well done to Jade Glynn and Daisies class on their well deserved win. ... See MoreSee Less

On Monday, Lilies class were visited by some of the team from Johnson Matthey for their annual Catalyst competition.
In teams, the children were set a task to build a radio station tower using only wooden sticks and elastic bands. Their Maths skills were also put to the test as they had to purchase the materials required, whilst staying within the budget set.
Points were awarded for; height of the tower, stability, staying within budget and creative advertisement.
A fantastic display of teamwork was shown throughout the day and some innovative designs were created.
One of the towers built was the highest recorded in over 4 years of the competition.
On Friday, we were pleased to find that one of our teams are through to the final of the competition. This will be held at The Grand, Clitheroe on Wednesday 23rd March.
Good luck to our Moorland Team. ... See MoreSee Less

Woodlands have had a superb day fundraising for Sport Relief.
We kicked off the day with a fantastic assembly from Daisies class. We learnt about the importance of raising money for this charity and heard some of the ways our money helps the children and families in need.
Next, the children took part in a variety of team events such as; Basketball, Relay, Egg & Spoon, Target Shot, Hockey Skills and Hurdles. Each of teams were awarded points during the activities, which were then counted up at the end of the events. Well done to all the children who showed great enthusiasm and encouragement throughout.
Congratulations to the winning team who achieved a total of 361 points.
Despite the terrible weather, the children once again put 100% effort into their sponsored mile. They never fail to amaze us.
Thank you to all our parents for their donations of cakes and biscuits for our Bake Sale.
Over the next week we will be collecting in the last of the sponsorships. Once counted, we will announce the total amount of money raised.
Thank you again for your ongoing support. ... See MoreSee Less

World Book Day 2017
The Woodlands have had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day.
The children looked absolutely fantastic in their costumes, a big thank you to all our parents who put so much time and effort into their children's costumes.
All of the children took part in a World Book Day parade, showcasing their amazing outfits. Each child then voted for their favourite boy and girl character.
The children were then able to demonstrate their artistic flair when designing a bookmark for a class competition. The teachers had a tough job deciding on one winner from each class as there were so many fantastic designs.
A big congratulations to our two 'Best Costume Winners'.

Gypsy Salisbury as Cindy Lou from Dr Seuss

National Investec ISFA Champions!!!!!
Well done to the Moorland U13 Boys.
What an incredible achievement and outstanding performance by the Moorland Boys today. Moorland played fluid attacking football from the outset which overwhelmed Whitgift school. This team have produced some exquisite football this year but this game has seen them play at a completely new level.
"I am incredibly proud of all the squad. This was their best display to date and would put the great Barcelona to shame!", Coach Charlie Jackson.
The team controlled the game through the first half with accurate passing and sublime movement to pick apart the Whitgift defence.
Whitgift, who have won this competition for the last 6 years, began the second half strong but Moorland showed their determination and fought as a team to create more chances.
Moorland scored in the last minute of normal time but the referee had already blown for a penalty. An unfortunate slip during the penalty saw the game enter extra-time.
Moorland showed incredible spirit as they reformed, picked themselves up and continued to press forward throughout extra-time. Their fitness and stamina shining through.
With 2 minutes of extra-time to play, Jay Haddow showed his cool by controlling the ball and volleying into the Whitgift net. Bosh!
The game finished 1-0 to Moorland School, a massive achievement - We are so proud of you lads!!
We must also say a massive thank you to the support in the stands. You were awesome!

The Sweet Peas have had a great time celebrating Shrove Tuesday. Firstly, we learned all about Pancake Day and why it is celebrated, we also discussed the things that we would choose to give up for Lent.
Next, we all became chefs for the day when exploring our Pancake Day role play station, we were able to follow recipe cards to make our own pretend pancakes. We got very excited when perfecting our pancake toss!
We then did some super writing when making a shopping list of the ingredients we would need to make our own pancakes, we are all trying so hard to use our phonetic knowledge to spell irregular words.
To finish off the day, we had a go at making our own pancakes. We used lots of mathematical vocabulary when weighing out the ingredients and when adding them to the mixture. We added lots of delicious toppings to make them taste even better.
We cannot wait for Pancake Day next year! ... See MoreSee Less
