Woodlands ended the Spring term on a high by enjoying an Easter themed day.

First, the children where split into their teams for the day. They then worked together and took part in an Easter Egg Hunt around the school. It was lovely to see the older children helping the Sweet Peas find some eggs for their team. Once all the Easter treats had been found the children came together to add up their scores. Well done to the winning team!

Next, the children demonstrated their artistic skills when taking part in an Easter Bonnet Competition. In their teams the children had to decorate their bonnet ready to showcase to the rest of the school. The children then all voted for their favourite bonnet.

At the end of the day, the Easter raffle was drawn. Well done to all the children who won a prize, don't eat it all at once!

We wish you all a lovely Easter break, have a wonderful time and stay safe.

This term in Science, Buttercups class have been exploring forces.
The children started by looking at different types of movement and how it can be described. They then investigated and experimented with different techniques to make simple objects move, observing and recording the results.
The children then looked at how different forces change the speed of how things move and what can cause friction and resistance to make objects stop.
Buttercups enjoyed constructing their own vehicles and investigated the best way to move objects over different surfaces.

The children are having a fantastic time and are really enjoying themselves.

Miss Jacks and Miss Hull are impressed with how brave children are when facing some of their fears.

They have another evening of team challenges planned for tonight before they enjoy the last of their activities tomorrow.

What a busy day Woodlands have had. Firstly, we started the day off with a wonderful Mother's Day Breakfast. The children read out their beautiful cards, whilst the mums were treated to jam and cream scones and tea. It was lovely to hear all the amazing reasons why the children love their mum's.

The children then enjoyed another fabulous bake sale in aid of Red Nose Day. Once again thank you to all the parents and staff that brought donations of cakes and biscuits.

This afternoon the children became entertainers in the Moorland School Talent Contest. From impressions to dancing, we had it all. It really did showcase what fantastic talent we have here at school. Well done to Jade Glynn and Daisies class on their well deserved win.

Well done to Lilies class for their great effort and hard work at the Catalyst Final. The children had a brilliant day and produced some impressive structures.

Unfortunately, they did not go on to win the competition; however, all of the children tried their hardest and that is all that mattered on the day.

Well done Lilies!

On Tuesday, Sweet Peas braved the terrible weather and walked into Clitheroe to see our royal visitor.

As always, the children set a fantastic example and were perfectly behaved.

After a cold and wet wait, Sweet Peas finally saw Prince Charles arrive by train.

Although they didn't get to meet him in person, the children managed to give him one of their well practiced royal waves!

On Monday, Lilies class were visited by some of the team from Johnson Matthey for their annual Catalyst competition.

In teams, the children were set a task to build a radio station tower using only wooden sticks and elastic bands. Their Maths skills were also put to the test as they had to purchase the materials required, whilst staying within the budget set.

Points were awarded for; height of the tower, stability, staying within budget and creative advertisement.

A fantastic display of teamwork was shown throughout the day and some innovative designs were created.

One of the towers built was the highest recorded in over 4 years of the competition.

On Friday, we were pleased to find that one of our teams are through to the final of the competition. This will be held at The Grand, Clitheroe on Wednesday 23rd March.

Good luck to our Moorland Team.

Woodlands have had a superb day fundraising for Sport Relief.
We kicked off the day with a fantastic assembly from Daisies class. We learnt about the importance of raising money for this charity and heard some of the ways our money helps the children and families in need.

Next, the children took part in a variety of team events such as; Basketball, Relay, Egg & Spoon, Target Shot, Hockey Skills and Hurdles. Each of teams were awarded points during the activities, which were then counted up at the end of the events. Well done to all the children who showed great enthusiasm and encouragement throughout.

Congratulations to the winning team who achieved a total of 361 points.

Despite the terrible weather, the children once again put 100% effort into their sponsored mile. They never fail to amaze us.

Thank you to all our parents for their donations of cakes and biscuits for our Bake Sale.

Over the next week we will be collecting in the last of the sponsorships. Once counted, we will announce the total amount of money raised.

Thank you again for your ongoing support.

Lilies class have been extremely busy over the last few weeks, preparing themselves for their SAT's examinations in May.
We have been revising using sample SAT's papers, including Grammar and Punctuation, Reading Comprehension and Mathematics. These then highlight any gaps in the children's knowledge and allow for intervention and booster classes to take place.
We have also had a big focus on inference and have been problem solving on a daily basis.

Well done to Bluebells class for their interesting and informative assembly all about Shrove Tuesday. It is wonderful to see how confident our pupils are becoming.

Infant Special Award: Faith Hodgson

Junior Special Award: Rebecca Entwistle

Headteacher's Award: Chloe Green

We always love to see achievements that are made at home, as well as at School. Zikraa has been working hard, at home to create these wonderful masterpieces. As you can see a lot of time and effort has gone into these paintings. We cannot wait to see what she creates next. Well done Zikraa!
